گفت وقت حلق خلقی در حجاز
بهر سنت موی میکردند باز

از یکی پرسید آن مجنون راه
کز چه اندازید موی اینجایگاه

گفت موی افکندن اینجا سنت است
ترک این سنت دلیل محنت است

چون شنود القصه آن دیوانه راز
گفت ای مشتی گدای بی نیاز

حلقه سر گر سنتی آمد نه خرد
پس فریضه ریش میباید سترد

زانکه در ریش تو چندان باد هست
کان بلای صد دل آزاد هست

زین چه گفتم بر شما صد منت است
کاین فریضه بهتر از صد سنت است

کار کن چون وقت کارت این دمست
زآنکه این یک دم ترا صد عالمست

تاکی از خواب هوس بیدار شو
همچو بیداران دین در کار شو

گر نخواهی کشت کرد امروز تو
چون کنی فردا میان سوز تو

English translation

He said, at the time of head-shaving, people in Hijaz Were untying their hair for the sake of the Sunnah. That madman of the path asked one of them: "Why do you throw away your hair in this place?" He said, "Shedding hair here is a Sunnah; Abandoning this Sunnah is a proof of affliction." When the madman heard this secret, in short, He said, "O handful of needless beggars! If shaving the head is a Sunnah, not an obligation, Then shaving the beard must be an obligation. Because in your beard there is so much pride, That it is the calamity of a hundred free hearts. You owe me a hundred obligations for what I have told you, For this obligation is better than a hundred Sunnahs. Work, since the time for your work is this moment, Because this one breath is a hundred worlds for you. How long will you sleep? Wake up from the sleep of desire! Like the awakened ones of religion, get to work. If you do not sow seeds today, What will you do tomorrow amidst your burning?"
