وقت غز خلقی بجان درمانده
هر کسی دستی ز جان افشانده

رخت میکردند پنهان هرکسی
پیشوایان گم شده در هر پسی

رفت آن دیوانه بر بام بلند
ژندهٔ را در سر چوبی فکند

چوب گردانید گرد سر بسی
مینیندیشید یک جو از کسی

گفت ای دیوانگی من بینوا
دارم از بر چنین روزی ترا

در چنان روزی که جان را بیم بود
مرد بیدل خسرو اقلیم بود

تو نمیدانی که چون آهو ز سگ
راه زن بگریزد از عریان بتک

تا ترا نقدیست بند جان تست
ور نداری هیچ جمله آن تست

هرچه داری ترک کن یکبارگی
تا برون آئی ازین بیچارگی

English translation

During the time of the Ghaz invasion, the people were in deadly despair, Everyone had given up hope for their lives. Everyone was hiding their belongings, The leaders were lost in every hiding place. That madman went up on a high roof, He placed a tattered rag on the tip of a stick. He twirled the stick around his head many times, He did not care a barleycorn for anyone. He said, 'O madness, I, the destitute one, Have kept you for such a day.' On such a day when lives were in peril, The fearless madman was the king of the realm. Do you not know that just as a deer flees from a dog, The highway bandit flees swiftly from the naked man? As long as you possess wealth, it is a shackle on your soul, And if you possess nothing, the whole world is yours. Abandon whatever you have all at once, So that you may emerge from this helplessness.
