Section 9 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

When Majnun became restless for Layli, Day and night, he became restless like the celestial sphere. He bid farewell to eating by day and sleeping by night, He made his eyes flow like a river from the sea of his heart. He set foot in the field of infamy, He placed the brand of the heart upon his melancholic intellect. One day his father said to him, "O clueless one! You have made yourself infamous from door to door. You remain residing in the bonds of infamy, No one will sell you bread for silver." When Majnun heard these words from his father, He said, "So much sorrow, suffering, and danger That I endure at this time for the sake of the Friend, The Friend knows that all this is for His sake." He said, "He knows." He said, "Then this is enough for me, Until Resurrection, every breath, this is enough for me. Even if they turn my heart to blood from this calamity, How can they remove this pain from my heart?"
