خواجهٔ اکافی آن برهان دین
گفت سنجر را که ای سلطان دین

واجبم آید بتو دادن زکات
زانکه تو درویش حالی در حیات

گر ترا ملک وزری هست این زمان
هست آن جمله ازان مردمان

کردهٔ از خلق حاصل آن همه
بر تو واجب میشود تاوان همه

چون از آن خود نبودت هیچ چیز
زین همه منصب چه سودت هیچ نیز

از همه کس گرچه داری بیشتر
میندانم کس ز تو درویشتر

English translation

Khwajah Akkafi, that proof of the faith, Said to Sanjar, 'O Sultan of the faith, It is obligatory for me to give you alms (zakat), Because you are in a state of poverty in this life. If you possess a kingdom and gold at this time, All of that belongs to the people. You have acquired all of it from the masses, The restitution for all of it becomes obligatory upon you. Since nothing is truly your own, What good is all this high rank to you anyway? Even though you possess more than everyone else, I know of no one more destitute than you.'
