ابن سیرین گفت جانم در جسد
بر کسی هرگز نبرد الحق حسد

زانکه نیست از دو برون حال ای اخی
یا بهشتیست این کس ویا دوزخی

گر بهشتیست او پس آن چندان کمال
کو بخواهد یافت آنگه بی زوال

آن همه او راست دنیاش اندکی
کی حسد باشد براندک بی شکی

آن همه چون خواهدش آمد بدست
من حسد ورزم ازین اندک که هست

ور ز اهل دوزخست این مبتلا
آنچه او را هست در پیش از بلا

کی روا باشد حسد بردن برو
نوحه باید یا دعا کردن برو

چون ترا از گردهٔ نانست زیست
آخرت چندین حسد از بهر چیست

چون ترا هر روز یک گرده تمام
گردهٔ چون حاصل آمد والسلام

English translation

Ibn Sirin said, "My soul in my body Has truly never envied anyone. Because the situation is not outside of two, O brother: Either this person is of Paradise or of Hell. If he is of Paradise, then all that perfection, Which he will find then without decline, All of that is his, and his worldly portion is small; How can there be envy over a little, without a doubt? Since all that will come into his hands, Should I envy this little that he has? And if this afflicted one is of the people of Hell, Considering what he has before him of affliction, How is it permissible to envy him? One should lament or pray for him. Since your living is from a loaf of bread, What is the point of so much envy, after all? Since one full loaf is enough for you every day, When a loaf is obtained, that is all."
