آن یکی دیوانه حیران میشتافت
کلهٔ در راه گورستان بیافت

کرد پرخاک و نهفتش بر زمین
آن یکی گفتش چرا کردی چنین

گفت مجنونش که ای از کار دور
بوده است این کله پر باد غرور

میکنم پرخاک این سر تا مگر
چون در آمد خاک باد آید به در

گرچه سر بر آسمان داری کنون
در زمین چون آسمان گردی نگون

کار و بار تو در این عالم بود
چون تو رفتی آن همه ماتم بود

نیست آنجا جز فنا را هیچ روی
زآنکه آنجا در نگنجد هیچ موی

English translation

A bewildered madman was hurrying along, He found a skull on the path to the graveyard. He filled it with dirt and hid it in the ground, Someone said to him, 'Why did you do such a thing?' The madman told him, 'O you who are far from the matter, This skull was full of the wind of pride. I am filling this head with dirt so that perhaps, When the dirt enters, the wind may come out. Even if you hold your head up to the sky now, In the earth, like the sky, you will become inverted. Your business and affairs are in this world; When you depart, all of that will be mourning. There is no face there except annihilation, For not even a single hair can fit in there.'
