کرد محمود از برای احترام
یک شبی آزاد بسیاری غلام

گفت خواهی ای ایاز اینجایگاه
تاکند آزادت امشب پادشاه

دست زد در زلف ایاز ماهروی
حلقهٔ بگرفته از زنجیر موی

گفت اگر مردی چه باشی غرقه تو
جانت را آزاد کن زین حلقه تو

ای شده زلف مرا حلقه بگوش
خویش را آزاد کن چندین مکوش

شیوهٔ معشوق خون خوردن بود
وین ز فرط دوستی کردن بود

دوستی باشد همه در پوستش
دوست دارد آنکه داری دوستش

English translation

Mahmud, out of respect, Freed many slaves one night. He said, "O Ayaz, do you wish in this place, That the king frees you tonight?" The moon-faced Ayaz reached into his tresses, Taking a ring from the chain of his hair. He said, "If you are a man, why are you so overwhelmed? Free your own soul from this ring! O you who have become a slave to my tresses, Free yourself, do not struggle so much. The way of the beloved is to drink blood, And this is done out of an excess of love. Friendship is entirely within his skin, He loves the one whom you love."
