فاضل عالم فضیل آن ابر اشک
گفت از پیغامبرانم نیست رشک

زآنکه ایشان هم لحد هم رستخیز
پیش دارند و صراطی نیز تیز

جمله با کوتاه دستی و نیاز
کرده در نفسی زفان جان دراز

وز فرشته نیز رشکم هیچ نیست
زآنکه آنجا عشق و پیچاپیچ نیست

لیک ازآن کس رشکم آید جاودان
کو نخواهد زاد هرگز در جهان

باز گردد خوش هم از پشت پدر
تا شکم مادر نیارد بر زبر

کاشکی هرگز نزادی مادرم
تا نکردی کشته نفس کافرم

بکشدم نفسم که نفسم کشته باد
بکشدم در خون که در خون گشته باد

از توانگر بودن و درویشیم
هیچ خوشتر نیست از بی خویشیم

چون مرا از ترس این صد درس هست
هر کرا جانست جای ترس هست

English translation

Fuzayl, the learned scholar of the world, that cloud of tears, Said, 'I am not envious of the prophets, Because they too have both the grave and the resurrection Before them, and also a sharp path (Sirat). All of them, with helplessness and need, Have extended the tongue of the soul for a single breath. And I have no envy of the angels at all, Because there is no love and its twists and turns there. But I eternally envy the person Who will never be born into the world; Who happily turns back from his father's loins, So that his mother's womb does not bring him forth. I wish my mother had never given birth to me, So that my infidel self (nafs) had not killed me. My ego has killed me, may my ego be killed! It has killed me in blood, may it be rolled in blood! More than being wealthy or being a dervish, Nothing is more pleasant to me than selflessness. Since I have a hundred lessons from this fear, Whoever has a soul, has reason to fear.'
