چنین گفته ست آن دانندهٔ پاک
که هر کو در مقامر خانهٔ خاک
چنان در پاک بازی سر بر افراخت
که هرچش بود با یک دیده در باخت
گرفته توبه کرد و نیز نشکست
نه بر بیهوده چشمی داد از دست
بتوبه گرچه در پیش صف آید
ولی چشم شده کی با کف آید
عزیزا هر دمی کز دل برآری
که آن بی ذکر حق ضایع گذاری
چو چشمی دان که در می بازی آن را
تدارک کی توان کرد این زیان را
مده ازدست چیزی را که از عز
نیاید نیز با دست تو هرگز
English translation
Thus spoke that pure, knowing one: That whoever in the gambling-house of the earthly realm, So proudly engaged in fair play, That he gambled away everything he had along with one eye. He then repented and did not break his vow, And did not lose an eye in vain. Even though through repentance he may reach the front row, But when will the lost eye return to his palm? O dear one, every breath you bring forth from your heart, That you waste without the remembrance of the Truth, Consider it as an eye that you are gambling away; How can this loss ever be compensated? Do not let go of something that out of its preciousness, Will never return to your hand again.
