چنین گفته ست آن پاکیزه گوهر
که دینی دوست از سگ هست کمتر

چو مرداریست این دنیای غدار
سگان هنگامه کرده گرد مردار

چو سگ زان سیر شد بگذارد آنرا
که تا یک سگ دگر بردارد آنرا

ذخیره نهد او از هیچ روئی
نیندیشد ز فردا نیز موئی

ولی هر کس که دنیاجوی باشد
همیشه در طلب چون گوی باشد

چو گوئی می دود دایم ز عادت
که تا یک دم کند دنیا زیادت

امید عمر یک روزش نه وانگاه
غم صد ساله بر جانش بیک راه

English translation

Thus has that pure-natured one said, That a lover of the world is lesser than a dog. Since this treacherous world is like a carcass, Dogs have made an uproar around the carcass. When a dog is sated with it, it leaves it behind, So that another dog may take it up. It lays down no store in any way, Nor does it worry about tomorrow by a single hair. But whoever is a seeker of the world, Is always in pursuit like a ball. Like a ball, they constantly run out of habit, So that for a moment they might increase their worldly wealth. They do not have the hope of one day's life, and yet, The sorrow of a hundred years is upon their soul all at once.
