جواب پدر / The Father's Answer

پدر گفتش عزیزا چند گوئی
ز غفلت ملک فانی چند جوئی
چو باقی نیست ملکت جز زمانی
مکن در گردنت بار جهانی
چو بار خود بتنها بر نتابی
ببار خلق عالم چون شتابی؟
ز درویشی چو مردن هست دشوار
ز شاهی چون بمیری آخر کار؟
چو می بینی زوال پادشاهی
عجب می آیدم تا می چه خواهی
English translation
The father said to him: 'O dear one, how long will you speak? Out of negligence, how long will you seek a fleeting kingdom? Since your kingdom remains but for a moment, Do not place the burden of the world around your neck. Since you cannot bear your own burden alone, Why do you hasten to bear the burden of the people of the world? Since dying in poverty is difficult, How will you die in kingship at the end of the day? Since you see the decline of sovereignty, I wonder what it is that you desire!'
