به پیش پاک بازان دلفروز
چنین گفت احمد غزال یک روز

که چون بهر جمال یوسف خوب
بمصر آمد زبیت الحزن یعقوب

درآمد تنگ یوسف پیش او در
گرفت آن تنگ دل را تنگ در بر

فغان در بسته بد یعقوب ناگاه
که کو یوسف مگر افتاد در چاه

بدو گفتند آخر می چه گوئی
گرفته در بر او را می چه جوئی

ز کنعان بوی پیراهن شنیدی
چو دیدی این دمش گوئی ندیدی

جواب این داد یعقوب پیمبر
که من یوسف شدم امروز یکسر

ز یوسف لاجرم بوئی شنودم
که من خود بندهٔ یعقوب بودم

همه من بوده ام، یوسف کدامست
چو خود را یافتم اینم تمامست

بخود گر سر فرود آری زمانی
بیابی زانچه می گوی نشانی

ولی چون از همه آزاد گردی
تو نه غمگین شوی نه شاد گردی

ز زیر چرخ گردانت بر آرند
برنگ کار مردانت برآرند

English translation

To the heart-illuminating, pure-spirited lovers, Ahmad Ghazali spoke thus one day: 'When, for the beauty of the handsome Joseph, Jacob came to Egypt from the House of Sorrows, Joseph came close and entered before him, And pressed that sorrowful one tightly in his embrace. Suddenly, Jacob raised a cry, 'Where is Joseph? Did he fall into the well?' They said to him: 'After all, what are you saying? You hold him in your embrace, yet you seek him? From Canaan you smelled the scent of his shirt, But now that you see him, you act as if you did not see him this moment?' Jacob the Prophet answered: 'Today, I have become Joseph entirely. Naturally, I smelled a scent of Joseph, Because I myself was the servant of Jacob. I have been all, who is Joseph? Since I have found myself, this is enough for me.' If you bow your head to your own self for a moment, You will find a sign of what I say. But when you become free from everything, You will be neither sorrowful nor joyful. They will lift you out from under this turning sky, And fashion you in the likeness of true men.'
