چو اسکندر بزاری در زمین خفت
حکیمی بر سر خاکش چنین گفت

که شاها تو سفر بسیار کردی
ولیکن نه چنین کین بار کردی

بسی گرد جهان گشتی چو افلاک
کنون گشتی تو از گشت جهان پاک

چرا چون می شدی می آمدی تو
چرا می آمدی چون می شدی تو

نه ازگنج آگهی اینجا که هستی
نه آگه تا که آنجا می فرستی

چرا بایست چندین بند آخر
ازین آمد شدن تا چند آخر

English translation

When Alexander slept pitifully in the earth, A sage spoke thus over his dust: "O King, you traveled extensively, But you never made a journey like this time. You revolved around the world like the heavens, Now you have become completely free from the rotation of the world. Why did you come, if you were to depart? Why did you come, since you were departing? You are not aware of the treasure here where you are, Nor are you aware of what you send there. Why were so many bonds necessary in the end? How long will this coming and going last in the end?"
