چو یوسف را در افکندند در چاه
درآمد جبرئیل از سدره ناگاه

که دل خوش دار در درد جدائی
که خواهد بود زین چاهت رهائی

تو را برهاند از غم حق تعالی
دهد از ملکت مصرت کمالی

نهد تاجی ز عزت بر سر تو
فرستد مصریان را بر در تو

جهان در زیر فرمان تو آرد
جهانی خلق مهمان تو آرد

بیارد ده برادر را که داری
برای نان به پیش تو بخواری

علی الجمله بگو با من درین چاه
که چون چشمت برایشان افتد آنگاه

بزندان شان کنی یا دار سازی
و یا از بهر کشتن کارسازی

و یا از زخم چوب و تازیانه
ز هر یک خون کنی جوئی روانه

چنین گفت آن زمان یوسف بجبریل
که چون آیند خوانمشان بتعجیل

نه از بفروختن گویم نه ازچاه
براندازم نقاب از روی آنگاه

اگر سازند پیشم خویش را خم
چه گویم هل علمتم ما فعلتم

شما آخر تأسف می نخوردید
ز درد آنکه با یوسف چه کردید؟

بر ایشان بر گشادن این کمین بس
عذاب سخت ایشان را همین بس

اگر دلهای ایشان خاره گردد
ازین تشویر حالی پاره گردد

دلت مرده ست اگر زین درد فردست
که بی شک زنده را احساس در دست

تو خامی، زین حدیثت خوش نیفتد
که جز در سوخته آتش نیفتد

چو مومی روز و شب در سوختن باش
که تا آتش کند افروختن فاش

چو در غیری ندیدی هیچ خیری
چرا مشغول می گردی بغیری

چو کارت با خود افتادست پیوست
سفر در خویش کن بی پای و بی دست

اگر در خویشتن یک دم بگردی
چو صد دل دان که در عالم بگردی

ترا یک ذره در خود عیب دیدن
به از صد نور غیب الغیب دیدن

English translation

When they cast Joseph into the well, Gabriel suddenly descended from the Lote Tree.

Saying, 'Be of good cheer in the pain of separation, For there shall be deliverance from this well.

The Almighty Truth will deliver you from sorrow, He will grant you perfection in the kingdom of Egypt.

He will place a crown of glory on your head, He will send the Egyptians to your door.

He will bring the world under your command, He will make a world of people your guests.

He will bring the ten brothers you have, In humiliation before you for bread.

In short, tell me in this well, When your eyes fall upon them then,

Will you imprison them or hang them, Or arrange for their execution?

Or from the blows of sticks and whips, Will you make a river of blood flow from each one?'

Joseph said to Gabriel at that time, 'When they come, I will summon them in haste.

I will not speak of the selling, nor of the well, I will throw off the veil from my face then.

If they bow down before me, What should I say? "Do you know what you did?"

Did you not feel remorse in the end, From the pain of what you did to Joseph?

Opening this ambush against them is enough, This alone is a harsh punishment for them.

If their hearts turn to stone, They will be torn apart instantly by this shame.'

Your heart is dead if it is detached from this pain, For undoubtedly, the living has feelings in hand.

You are raw, this discourse does not please you, For fire falls only on what is burned.

Like a candle, be burning day and night, So that the fire makes its kindling known.

Since you saw no good in another, Why do you occupy yourself with another?

Since your affair has constantly fallen to yourself, Travel within yourself without foot and without hand.

If you wander within yourself for a moment, Know it is like wandering with a hundred hearts in the world.

For you to see one atom of fault in yourself, Is better than seeing a hundred lights of the unseen of the unseen.
