(18) The Tale of Jesus, Peace Be Upon Him, and the Jews

Original content

English translation

The pure Jesus was walking down a street, The Jews hurled many brazen insults at him. They hurled them, and happily that pure-born one, Offered prayers for them with a cheerful face. Someone asked him, 'Were you not distressed By the insults, that you pray for them?' The Messiah said to him, 'Every heart that has a soul, Spends only from that which it possesses. The coin that you have in the sea of the soul, If it makes a wave, it is of that very kind. But until the final breath arrives, Your inner coin will not become manifest. The touchstone of men's souls is at that time, When the blind man, at that moment, becomes a person of vision. You must bear the sorrow of tomorrow today, Your heart must be aflame from that fear. You must die a hundred times every moment, So that you may be able to traverse this valley. If fire rains upon you from the cloud, You must remain happy in the midst of it. If you arrive happily at the time of giving up your soul, In meaning, you will arrive warmer than fire.'
