بزرگی گفت ایوب پیمبر
که چندین سال گشت از کرم مضطر

ز چندان رنج آهی بود مقصود
چو کرد آهی نجاتش داد معبود

زکریا ارهٔ بر سر بزاری
بدوگفتا اگر آهی برآری

کنم از انبیا بسترده نامت
مزن دم تا کند اره تمامت

عجایب بین کزان یک آه می خواست
وزین یک خامشی را ز آه می خواست

نه آهی می توان کرد از بر خویش
نه خامش می توان بودن، بیندیش

چو دریائیست این دو چشم و جانی
نه سر پیدا ونه بن نه میانی

درین دریا نه خاموشی نه گفتار
نه ساکن بودنت لایق نه رفتار

جوانمردا تو چندین پیچ پیچی
چگونه می بری چون هیچ هیچی

هزاران پرده بیش از ظلمت و نور
چگونه منقطع گردد رهی دور

هزاران بند داری تا قیامت
چگونه ره بری راه سلامت

مگر از پیش برخیزد حجابی
ز لطف حق بتابد آفتابی

که چون آن لطف از پیشان نباشد
جهانی درد را درمان نباشد

English translation

A great man said that the Prophet Job, Who for many years was distressed by worms, From so much suffering, a sigh was the goal; When he let out a sigh, the Worshipped One granted him salvation. Zachariah, with a saw on his head in misery, He (God) told him, "If you let out a sigh, I shall erase your name from the prophets; Do not breathe a word until the saw finishes you." See the wonders! From that one He desired a sigh, And from this one He desired silence from sighing. One cannot let out a sigh of one's own accord, Nor can one remain silent; reflect on this! Since these two eyes and the soul are an ocean, Neither its beginning is visible, nor its bottom, nor its middle. In this ocean, there is neither silence nor speech, Neither is your stillness fitting, nor your motion. O noble youth, you twist and turn so much, How can you prevail, since you are nothing at all? There are thousands of veils of darkness and light, How can a distant path be traversed? You have thousands of bonds until the Day of Judgment, How will you find the path of salvation? Unless a veil is lifted from before you, And a sun shines from the grace of the Truth. For if that grace is not present from the beginning, A world of pain will have no cure.
