یکی دیوانه بود از اهل رازی
نکردی هیچ جز تنها نمازی

کسی آورد بسیاری شفاعت
که تا آمد بجمعه در جماعت

امام القصه چون برداشت آواز
همی آن غر نبیدن کرد آغاز

کسی بعد از نماز از وی بپرسید
که جانت در نماز از حق نترسید

که بانگ گاو کردی بر سر جمع؟
سرت باید بریدن چون سر شمع

چنین گفت او کامامم پیشوا بود
بدو چون اقتدای من روا بود

چو در الحمد گاوی می خرید او
ز من هم بانگ گاوی می شنید او

چو او را پیش رو کردم بهر چیز
هر آنچ او می کند من می کنم نیز

کسی پیش خطیب آمد بتعجیل
سؤالش کرد ازان حالت بتفصیل

خطیبش گفت چون تکبیر بستم
دهی ملکست جائی دور دستم

چو در الحمد خواندن کردم آغاز
بخاطر اندر آمد گاو ده باز

ندارم گاو گاوی می خریدم
که از پس بانگ گاوی می شنیدم

English translation

There was a madman from the people of Rayy, Who did nothing but pray all alone. Someone offered much persuasion, Until he came to the Friday congregation. In short, when the Imam raised his voice, He began to bellow like a bull. Someone asked him after the prayer: 'Did your soul not fear God during the prayer, That you made the sound of a cow before the assembly? Your head should be cut off like the wick of a candle!' He replied: 'Since the Imam was my leader, And following him was proper for me, When during the recitation of Al-Hamd he was buying a cow, He heard the sound of a cow from me as well. Since I made him my guide in everything, Whatever he does, I do the same.' Someone went to the preacher in haste, And asked him in detail about that state. The preacher said: 'When I pronounced the Takbir, I remembered a village that is my property in a far-off place. When I began to recite Al-Hamd, The cow of that village returned to my mind. I do not own a cow, so I was buying one, And that is why I heard the sound of a cow from behind me.'
