(۵) حکایت دیوانه که رازی با حق گفت / (5) The Tale of the Madman Who Told a Secret to God

یکی دیوانهٔ کو بود در بند
بلب می گفت رازی با خداوند

یکی بر لب نهادش گوش حالی
که تا واقف شود زان سر عالی

بحق می گفت: این دیوانهٔ تو
که بود او مدتی هم خانهٔ تو

چو در خانه نگنجیدی تو با او
که در خانه تو می بایست یا او

بحکم تو کنون زین خانه رفتم
چو توهستی من دیوانه رفتم

درین مذهب که جز این هیچ ره نیست
بترکه ما و من شرک و گنه نیست

برون آ ای پسر زین خانهٔ تنگ
که بار تو گرانست و خرت لنگ

ازینجا رخت سوی لامکان کش
براق عشق را در زیر ران کش

که بار عشق را جان بارگیرست
ولی میدان خلدش ناگزیرست

ملازم باش این در راه که ناگاه
بقرب خویشتن خاصت کند شاه

حضور تست اصل تو و گر هیچ
حضور تو همی باید دگر هیچ

اگر تو حاضر درگاه گردی
ز مقبولان قرب شاه گردی

English translation

There was a madman who was in chains, Murmuring a secret to the Lord. Someone immediately put an ear to his lips, To become aware of that sublime secret. He was saying to God: 'This madman of Yours, Who was Your housemate for a while, Since You could not be contained in the house with him, For in the house there had to be either You or he; By Your command, I have now left this house, Since You exist, I, the madman, have departed. In this path, where there is no other way, There is no worse polytheism and sin than saying "I" and "we". Come out, O son, from this narrow house, For your burden is heavy and your donkey is lame. Move your baggage from here to the placeless realm, Mount the Buraq of love beneath your thighs. For the soul is the carrier of the burden of love, But the arena of eternity is inevitable for it. Be a constant attendant on this path, so that suddenly, The King may make you a chosen one in His presence. Your presence is your very essence; if there is nothing else, Only your presence is needed, nothing more. If you become present at the royal court, You will become one of the accepted ones in the King's proximity.'
