(10) The Tale of the People of Hell

Original content

English translation

It is related thus, that from among the individuals of the community, A group will be deprived of mercy. An address will come, saying, 'Take them right now Towards hell, drenched in blood.' In the end, at the edge of hell, all at once, They will ask God for a little respite, not a lot. An address will come from the Presence clearly, 'That no task is delayed for Us. Now, not for any reason, for a thousand years, By grace, We have given this people a respite.' It is related thus about that heart-burning people, That they will cry this entire period, night and day. When these thousand years come to an end for them, They will need another respite from the Presence. They will take two more [thousand years of] respite from God, So that they may shed blood over their own pain. Continuously, for these three thousand years and more, They will cry and roll in blood, For no one, for a single moment, with that wretched people, Will say, 'Why do you cry so much?' A great man said, 'A hundred distressed souls, Like my soul, be sacrificed for their tears! For the pain that has no cure, From the Presence, none but their hearts has it. Until you have an incurable pain, You will not have the command to cure it. A single pain of His is better for you than a hundred souls, For His pain is better for you than many cures. Even if Abu Ubayda is your surgeon, Your heart has no remedy for its wound. Throw yourself down headfirst at His feet, Perhaps the Friend will lift you from the dust. If you do not lift your head from His feet, You will obtain His captivating lasso.'
