زنان مصطفی یک روز با هم
بپرسیدند ازو کای صدر عالم

کرا داری تو از ما بیشتر دوست
اگر با ما بگوئی حال نیکوست

پیمبر گفت ای قوم دلفروز
شما را صبر باید کرد امروز

که تا فردا بگویم آنچه دانم
جواب جمله بدهم گر توانم

چو شب شد همچو روز هجر تاریک
جدا زان هر یکی را خواند نزدیک

نهانی هر زنی را خاتمی داد
همی از بهر حاجت مرهمی داد

ز هر یک حجتی بستد که یک دم
نگوید با زن دیگر زخاتم

پس پرده نهان می دارد آن راز
نبگذارد برون از پرده آواز

بآخر چون درآمد روز دیگر
رسیدند آن زنان پیش پیمبر

بپرسیدند ازان پاسخ دگر بار
زبان بگشاد پیغمبر بگفتار

که آن را دوست تر دارم ز عالم
که او را داده ام در خفیه خاتم

زنان چون این سخن از وی شنودند
همه پنهان ز هم شادی نمودند

نگه کردند در یکدیگر آنگاه
ازان سر کس نبود البته آگاه

جدا هر یک ز سر آن خبر داشت
ولی با عایشه کاری دگر داشت

اگر دل خواهدت ای مرد ناچار
که کاری باشدت در پرده زنهار

نواله از جگر کن شاد می باش
ولی درخون دل آزاد می باش

که تا تو خون ننوشی در جدائی
نیابی ره بسر آشنائی

English translation

The wives of Mustafa one day together Asked him, saying: 'O chief of the world, Whom of us do you love the most? If you tell us, it would be well.' The Prophet said: 'O heart-delighting group, You must be patient today, So that tomorrow I may say what I know, And answer all of you if I can.' When night fell, dark like the day of separation, He called each one of them near, separately. Secretly he gave a ring to each wife, Providing a remedy for their need. From each he took a covenant that they would not, for a single moment, Speak to another wife about the ring, But keep that secret hidden behind the curtain, And not let any sound escape the veil. At last, when the next day arrived, Those wives came before the Prophet. They asked for the answer once more, And the Prophet opened his tongue to speak, Saying: 'I love her the most in the world To whom I have secretly given the ring.' When the wives heard these words from him, They all rejoiced secretly from one another. They looked at one another then, And of course, none was aware of that secret. Each one separately had news of that secret, But he had a different matter with Aisha. If you must, O man, of necessity, Have a matter behind the curtain, beware: Feed on your own liver and be glad, But be free in the blood of the heart; For until you drink blood in separation, You will not find the path to the secret of intimacy.
