چنین گفت آن امیر دردمندان
که نیست این بس عجب از گوسفندان

که می آرند ایشان را بخواری
که تا برند سرهاشان بزاری

که بی عقلند و ایشان می ندانند
ازان سوی مقابر چون روانند

ازان قصاب می باید عجب داشت
که او هم علم دارد هم طلب داشت

چو می داند که او را نیز ناگاه
بخواهندش بریدن سر درین راه

چگونه فارغ و ایمن نشستست
نمی جنبد خوشی ساکن نشستست

نگه کن تا بآدم پشت بر پشت
که چندین طفل عالم در شکم کشت

بسی میرند جسم مور داده
بسی شیرند تن در گور داده

جهان را ذرهٔ در مغز هش نیست
که او جز رستمی سهراب کش نیست

چه می گویم خطا گفتم چو مستان
که او زالیست سر تا پای دستان

ترا می پرورد از بهر خوردن
بنه این تیغ را ناکام گردن

مکش گردن، فلک سیلی زن تست
که گر سیلی خوری در گردن تست

بسیلی کردنت پرورده گردی
که تا فربه شوی وخورده گردی

English translation

Thus spoke that leader of the afflicted, That this is not so strange for the sheep, That they are brought in abasement, So that their heads are severed miserably, For they lack intellect and do not know, How they are heading towards the graves. Rather, one must marvel at that butcher, Who possesses both knowledge and aspiration, Since he knows that he too, suddenly, Will have his head severed on this path, How is he sitting carefree and secure? He does not stir, sitting pleasantly and still. Look back, generation after generation up to Adam, How many children of the world has it killed in its belly? Many are commanders who gave their bodies to the ants, Many are lions who yielded their bodies to the grave. The world does not possess an atom of consciousness in its brain, For it is nothing but a Rostam, a slayer of Sohrab. What am I saying? I spoke in error like the drunkards, For it is a crone, deceitful from head to toe. It nourishes you for the sake of devouring you; Yield your neck unwillingly to this sword. Do not rebel, for fate is your striker; If you receive a slap, the fault lies on your own neck. By slapping you, you are nurtured, So that you become fat and get devoured.
