(2) The Tale of the Stone and the Clod

Original content

English translation

It happened that there was a stone and a clod of earth on the road, Suddenly they fell into a sea. Lamenting, the stone said, 'I have drowned, Now I will tell my tale to the depths.' But that clod was annihilated from itself; I do not know how far it went and where it ended up. The tongueless clod raised a voice; Whoever had awareness heard its voice, Saying, 'Of me in the two worlds, "I" has not remained, Not a needle's point of my existence has remained. Of me, neither soul nor body can be seen, All is the sea; one can clearly see. If you become the same color as the sea today, You too will become a night-illuminating pearl in it. But as long as you desire to be yourself, You will not find the soul and wisdom.'
