بسنجر گفت غزالی که ای شاه
برون نیست از دو حال تو درین راه

اگر بیداری اینجا چون نشینی
که تا برهم زنی دیده، نه بینی

وگر تو خفتهٔ این پادشائی
نه بینی هیچ تا دیده گشائی

بملکی چند نازی چند خندی
که تا چشمی گشائی و ببندی

ازو آثار در عالم نه بینی
کم از هیچی بود آن هم نه بینی

تو گر خود یزدجرد پادشائی
بکشته عاقبت در آسیائی

اگر آگه نهٔ زان آسیا تو
یکی بنگر بدین چرخ دو تا تو

چو افتادی بدین چرخ دو تا در
شوی آخر بپای آسیا در

درین آتش چه عودی چه گیائی
بخسپد شب چه شاهی چه گدائی

English translation

Ghazali said to Sanjar, 'O King, Your condition on this path is not outside of two states: If you are awake here, how can you sit idle? For in the blink of an eye, you will no longer see it. And if you are asleep in this kingship, You will see nothing until you open your eyes. How much do you boast of a kingdom, how much do you laugh? For between the opening and closing of an eye, You will see no trace of it in the world; It is less than nothing, and even that you will not see. Even if you yourself are King Yazdegerd, In the end, you will be killed in a mill. If you are unaware of that mill, Look once at this vaulted wheel of the sky. When you fall into this vaulted wheel, You will ultimately go into the foot of the mill. In this fire, whether you are aloe wood or dry grass, In the night, whether king or beggar, both sleep equally.'
