بصحرا رفت شیخ مهنه ناگاه
گروهی گرم رو را دید در راه

که می رفتند بر یک شیوه یک جای
ازار پای چرمین کرده در پای

یکی را شاد بر گردن گرفته
بسی رندانش پیرامن گرفته

مگر پرسید آن شیخ زمانه
که کیست این مرد، گفتند ای یگانه

امیر جملهٔ اهل قمارست
که او در پیشهٔ خود مرد کارست

ازو پرسید شیخ عالم افروز
که از چه یافتی این میری امروز

جوابش داد رند نانمازی
که من این یافتم از پاک بازی

بزد یک نعره شیخ و گفت دانی
که دارد پاک بازی را نشانی

امیرست و سرافراز جهانست
که کژبازی بلای ناگهانست

همه شیران که مرد راه بودند
جهان عشق را روباه بودند

بهش رو، نیک بنگر، با خبر باش
بلا می بارد اینجا، بر حذر باش

اگر داری سر گردن نهادن
برای جان فشانی تن نهادن

مسلم باشدت این پاک بازی
وگر نه ناقصی و نانمازی

اگر چون پاک بازان میکنی کار
چو عیسی سوزنی با خود بمگذار

اگر جز سوزنی با تو بهم نیست
جز آن سوزن حجابت بیش و کم نیست

English translation

Suddenly, the Sheikh of Mehana went out to the desert; On the way, he saw a group of passionate travelers, Who were walking together in the same manner, Wearing leather trousers on their legs. They had joyfully hoisted one of them on their shoulders, With many rogues surrounding him. The Sheikh of the age asked: 'Who is this man?' They replied: 'O unique one, He is the leader of all gamblers, For he is a master of his craft.' The world-illuminating Sheikh asked him: 'How did you attain this leadership today?' The non-praying rogue replied to him: 'I attained this through playing clean (pak-bazi).' The Sheikh let out a cry and said: 'Do you know Who possesses the mark of playing clean? He is a prince and exalted in the world, For crooked play is a sudden calamity. All the lions who were men of the path Were but foxes in the world of love. Be mindful, look closely, and be aware: Calamity rains down here, so be on your guard. If you have the resolve to bow your head And surrender your body to sacrifice your life, Then this clean play will be rightly yours, Otherwise, you are deficient and non-praying. If you act like those who play clean, Do not even keep a needle with you like Jesus. If you have nothing with you but a needle, That needle is nothing more or less than your veil.'
