مگر محمود می شد بامدادی
کسی آمد وزو می خواست دادی

فغان می کرد و پیشش راه بگرفت
درآمد پس عنان شاه بگرفت

یکی پرسید کان مظلومت ای شاه
فلان وقتت عنان بگرفت در راه

عنان نکشیدی آنگه باز هیچی
کنون پس این عنان بهر چه پیچی

شهش گفتا که بودم آن زمان مست
که بگرفت او عنان من بیک دست

کنون هر موی این مظلوم دستیست
که از هر موی وی بر من شکستیست

چو چندین دست بینم در عنانم
اگر دستم دهد چون اسپ رانم؟

گرفتارم میان این همه دست
نمی دانم که چون بیرون توان جست

چو افتادن درین ره سود مردست
بیفتد هر که اینجا اهل دردست

بلندی چون درین ره پست گیرند
عنان پادشه بی دست گیرند

کسی باید بخون درگشته صد بار
که تا گردد ز افتادن خبردار

کسی کاندر میان ناز باشد
کجا برهاندش در باز باشد

English translation

It happened that Mahmud was going one morning, Someone came and sought justice from him. He cried out and blocked his path, He came forward and then took the king's reins. Someone asked, "O King, that oppressed man, Took your reins at such a time on the road. You did not pull the reins back then at all, Why do you twist the reins now?" The king said to him, "I was intoxicated at that time, When he took my reins with one hand. Now every hair of this oppressed man is a hand, And from every hair of his there is a defeat upon me. When I see so many hands on my reins, If my hand allows, how can I drive the horse? I am caught among all these hands, I do not know how one can escape. Since falling in this path is a man's profit, Whoever is a person of pain here will fall. Since in this path they take highness as lowness, They take the reins of the king without a hand. One must have rolled in blood a hundred times, So that he becomes aware of falling. Someone who is amidst comfort, How could an open door deliver him?"
