(15) The Tale of the Woman Who Was Circumambulating the Kaaba and the Man Who Looked at Her

Original content

English translation

A woman was circumambulating the House (the Kaaba), A man cast his gaze upon her face. The woman said to him, 'If you were a person of secrets (a mystic), When would you attend to me at such a moment? But you are unaware, you headless and footless one, From Whom you have been left behind in such a place. If there were a sign of true manliness (spiritual valor) in you, You would not be occupied with a woman here for a moment. You have come here in pursuit of profit, You have not come for the sake of loss. On such a warm market day of opportunity for yourself, Do you seek loss? Do you have no shame before God? The Lord of the World is constantly observing, You are absent from Him, and He is present over you. Since God is aware of you at every single breath, Why do you turn your head away from the path like the moon? Since the Truth (God) is with you in every station, Take no step except in His presence. If you take a single step on the path without Him, You will have to suffer much disgrace then.'
