چنین گفته ست آن شمع دل فروز
همه دان یوسف همدان یکی روز

که یوسف را چنین گفتند احرار
که ای کرده زلیخا را دل افگار

زنی شد عاجز و بی یار مانده
ز بی تیماریت بیمار مانده

ببردی دل ازو در زندگانی
اگر بازش دهی دل ، می توانی

چنین گفت آنگهی یوسف که هرگز
نبردم من دل آن پیر عاجز

نه از دل بردن او هستم آگاه
نه هم جستم به قصد دلبری راه

مرا نه با دل او کار بوده ست
نه در من هرگز این پندار بوده ست

مرا گویی که اکنون بیست سال است
که دل گم کرده ام این خود محال است

کسی کاو از دل خود نیست آگاه
چگونه در دل دیگر برد راه ؟

English translation

Thus spoke that heart-illuminating candle, The all-knowing Yusuf of Hamadan, one day: That the noble ones said to Joseph, 'O you who have wounded the heart of Zulaykha! A woman has become helpless and left friendless, Fallen ill due to your lack of care. You stole her heart in this life; If you can, give her heart back to her.' Joseph then said, 'Never Did I take the heart of that helpless old woman. Neither am I aware of taking her heart, Nor did I ever set out with the intent of allure. I have had no business with her heart, Nor has such a thought ever crossed my mind. You tell me that it has been twenty years Since I lost my own heart—this indeed is impossible. One who is not aware of their own heart, How can they find a way into another's heart?'
