Section 5 - On the Virtue of the Commander of the Faithful Uthman ibn Affan

Original content

English translation

The world of knowledge, the ocean of mystical insight, The Commander of the Faithful, Uthman ibn Affan. Modesty is an ocean that has neither foot nor head, Yet there is no pearl within it but Uthman. For one who is always in the company of the Quran, How could modesty not be his constant practice? His heart was a pure world of knowledge and piety, A pure companion to the Prophet, and the Prophet to him. He did countless good deeds for the Prophet, And aided him greatly during the Hour of Difficulty. The Prophet chose him as his son-in-law; Do not reject him, since the Prophet selected him. As he is accepted by the Quran and the Messenger, If you do not accept him, your mind is filled with vanity. His pure gem possessed such clarity That it was an intimate swimmer in the ocean of the Quran. He offered up his pure heart like a pure soul; In purity, he aligned himself with the Pure Word. For every letter of the Quran that he read, He read a hundred pages of secrets from his soul. Yet as soon as he received one page from his soul, He acquired a world of knowledge from the Beloved. In meaning, his single letter was a world; This is sign enough for you of the 'Kaf' and 'Nun'. Since he possessed a world within each letter, See how immense the capacity of his soul was! From each and every dot of the Quran, it was such That dot by dot, his eyes shed tears of blood. At every dot of secrets that he traversed, He rotated around that dot like a compass. Since Uthman initiated that foundation, The reward of all returns back to him.
