چو خود بر لوح زنگاری قلم زد
سپر بود و زتیغ خود علم زد

درآمد پیک پیش شاه حالی
بداد آن نامه را در جای خالی

چو شاه آن نامه را برخواند یکسر
دلش آشفته گشت از شاه قیصر

شه عالی صفت را بی خرد خواند
بخواری پیک را از پیش خود راند

بزودی ره برید آن پیک خوش رو
درآمد همچو بادی پیش خسرو

ز بیدادی آن شاهش خبر کرد
شه از خشمش جهانی را حشر کرد

نه چندان خلق گرد آورد قیصر
که چندان خلق، باشد روز محشر

همه صحرا و دشت از مردپرگشت
نیافت از خلق سوزن جای در دشت

ز ریگ و برگ، لشکر را عدد بیش
ز هر سوییش هر ساعت مدد بیش

ز چرخ ار سوزن عیسی فتادی
ندانم تا زمینش راه دادی

English translation

When the sun drew its pen upon the rust-colored tablet, It set up a shield and raised a banner with its sword. At that moment, the messenger entered before the king, And delivered that letter in a private space. When the king read that letter completely, His heart became troubled by Caesar. He called the high-minded king foolish, And drove the messenger away from him with contempt. The good-looking messenger quickly traveled the road, And entered before Khosrow like the wind. He informed him of that king's injustice; In his anger, the king gathered a world of host. Caesar did not gather so many people That there would be as many on the Day of Resurrection. All the desert and plain became filled with men; No needle could find a place on the ground due to the crowd. The army's number was greater than sands and leaves, From every side, reinforcements arrived every hour. If the needle of Jesus fell from the heavens, I know not if the earth would have allowed it to land.
