Section 4 - On the Virtue of the Commander of the Faithful Umar al-Faruq

Original content

English translation

The lamp of Paradise and the candle of both worlds, The Commander of the Faithful, Farooq the Great. Even though he held a kingdom within his grasp, That kingdom was not worth a single moment to him. A servant used to stand by his head, Having opened his tongue to speak of goodness. He would constantly say to him: 'Death! Death!' So that not a single moment of his life would be wasted. For one who has death appointed as his guardian, How could the kingdom of this world be full of abundance? There were nights when he himself would gather firewood, And carry firewood for an old woman. Who has ever seen the lamp of eternity gathering firewood? Who has ever seen such a brightly shining lamp of faith? Since the essence of faith was in his mind, They poured much oil into his lamp. Since that light could not be contained in this world, It became a lamp amidst Paradise and the houris. If there is any resentment in your heart towards Farooq, Your affairs in the path of religion are in disarray. Why do you rise in hostility against a lamp, By which a garden is illuminated like Paradise? In hostility to him, strike the blow upon yourself; Go, make Satan blind and strike down his body. Since Satan was blinded by him at the very beginning, That is why Satan became your ally in hostility against him. He conquered Persia, and this is an everlasting victory; Just as the Prophet was for the Arabs, and this is complete. The Persians at that time were Jews and Zoroastrians; Through him, they received the ball of Islam. One whose ancestors received Islam from Umar, Why does he turn his head away from his love today? He who was a non-Arab on the path, Became a Muslim and aware through his efforts. Since through his efforts he entered with affirmation, Why did he come out against him with denial? Had he never propagated the faith, Who in Persia would have ever become a Muslim? One whose faith is flourishing because of him, How can he say that he was in the wrong?
