Section 10 - On the Virtue of Imam Shafi'i

Original content

English translation

He who was the cousin of Mustafa, Imamate in both worlds was fitting for him. The Messenger of Truth had two such cousins, That his religion had eternal light from both. From Ibn Muttalib arose the Imamate, Just as from Ibn Abbas came his Caliphate. Whether the people of the path are a hundred thousand, Or a hundred, they have no path but his. I became certain that he is the sultan of the army, My proof is 'The Imams are from Quraysh'. Since I must uphold the religion of the foremost of the world, I must give precedence to a Qurayshi. Since his heart is boundless unto the threshold, His nation's book is the Mother of the Book. If one day it finds its way to the sea, It becomes nameless, then finds the sea. When he immersed himself in the religion of the Prophet, He sat in his place and became that sea. When that sea found flow in its place, He found the name of Qurayshi and Muhammad from it. Muhammad became a pearl on his tongue, Just as there, the word of truth came upon Umar. If he were not effaced in the Prophet, His hadith and verse would not be equal. When the hadith of that one rose in place of this, His stature became upright through being a master of hadith. A Qurayshi was his ancestor and Idris was his forefather, The spiritual path of this sect came from Paradise. Since this sect's foundation was given to Idris, Consider its paradise as present cash, and its enemy as Iblis. The Prophet laid down a treasure entirely of mercy, He divided it as Abu Hanifa's portion. Shafi'i entered that exalted treasure, When he saw the truth, he immediately scattered it. If you have no harvest from the love of the Kufan [Abu Hanifa], Like an owl, you have no dwelling but ruins. When you have Shafi'i and Abu Hanifa, You are both the master of religion and the caliph. And if you have this one but not that one, You have a heart, but you have no soul. Since they are both the eyes of the religion, Bow your head to these two way-seeing eyes. If you do not have both of them together, You do not have one world out of the two worlds. What are you saying, that both are in opposition? They are one, and you see two, O cross-eyed one! If you hold anger for them in your heart, Consider your two eyes blind, even if you have eyes.
