Section 54 - Old Hormoz's Farewell and His Departure for Rome

Original content

English translation

In the end, Khosrow asked him for directions, Bid him farewell, and set out straight upon the indicated path. When, in short, they journeyed on from there, They came upon a mountain, a stream, and a bridge. There was a pleasant village, in the plain and on the mountain-peak, A village full of bounties and a dense population. The king went towards the village together with his companions, He requested a guide from the villagers, To serve as a guide for him on the path, And to make him aware of the good and bad (perils). When the sun, like a gold-gilded millstone, Appeared from beneath the mill of the spheres, Thousands of grains had that collyrium-colored [sky], All at once, that millstone ground them down. Do you know why the whiteness of day shone forth? Because the face of day caught the dust of that mill. In the end, the king and the assembly of companions Set forth like rain falling from a cloud. When on the next day, that nine-vaulted palace [the sky] Was illuminated by the light of the candle of the horizons [the sun].
