الا ای هدهد زرین پر عشق
تویی نامه برو نام آور عشق

ببر این نامه و عزم سبا کن
ولی افسر بنه منصب رها کن

چه میگویم سلیمانی چو برخاست
اگر منصب کنی آید ترا راست

سلیمانت طلب داشت از جهانی
که تو غایب شدی از وی زمانی

چو تو در پرده چندین جاه داری
چرا پیوسته سر در راه داری

تویی جبریل هم بر فرش ادریس
چرا پیکی کنی در عرش بلقیس

اگر پیکی، چو جبریل امین شو
بیک دم زاسمان سوی زمین شو

فلک از عشق پر آوازه گردان
جهان از نامهٔ گل تازه گردان

English translation

O golden-feathered hoopoe of love, You are the letter-carrier and the renowned one of love. Take this letter and set out for Sheba, But lay down the crown and abandon your office. What am I saying? Since Solomon has arisen, If you hold office, it will suit you. Your Solomon sought you from the entire world, Since you disappeared from him for a time. Since you hold such high status behind the veil, Why do you constantly set out on the road? You are also Gabriel upon the carpet of Idris, Why do you act as a messenger in the court of Bilqis? If you are a messenger, be like Gabriel the trustworthy; In a single breath, descend from heaven to earth. Make the heavens resound with love, Make the world fresh with the letter of the rose.
