یکی پشه شکایت کرد از باد
به نزدیک سلیمان شد به فریاد

که ناگه باد تندم در زمانی
بیندازد جهانی تا جهانی

به عدلت باز خر این نیم جان را
وگرنه بر تو بفروشم جهان را

سلیمان پشه را نزدیک بنشاند
پس آنگه باد را نزدیک خود خواند

چو آمد باد از دوری به تعجیل
گریزان شد ازو پشه بصد میل

سلیمان گفت نیست از باد بیداد
ولیکن پشه می نتواند استاد

چو بادی می رسد او می گریزد
چگونه پشه با صرصر ستیزد

اگر امروز دادی نیم خرما
برستی هم ز دوزخ هم ز گرما

وگر یکبار آوردی شهادت
حلالت شد بهشت با سعادت

وگر چیزی ورای این دو جویی
شبت خوش باد بیهوده چه گویی

طلب مردود آمد راه مسدود
چو مقصودی نمی بینم چه مقصود

وگر تو گرم رو مردی درین کار
برو تا پینه بر کفشت زند یار

اگر صد قرن می گردی چو گویی
نمی دانم که خواهی یافت بویی

به پنداری ببردی روزگارت
تو این را کیستی با این چه کارت

English translation

A gnat complained about the wind, It went to Solomon, crying out in distress: "Suddenly a fierce wind in a moment Throws me from one world to another! By your justice, redeem this half-life of mine, Otherwise I will sell the world to you!" Solomon seated the gnat near him, Then he summoned the wind to his presence. When the wind arrived swiftly from afar, The gnat fled from it a hundred miles away. Solomon said: "There is no injustice from the wind, But the gnat cannot stand firm. When a wind arrives, it flees, How can a gnat contend with a roaring gale? If today you gave half a date [in charity], You would be saved from hell and from the heat. And if you bore witness [to the faith] even once, The blissful paradise would become lawful for you. And if you seek anything beyond these two, Good night to you! What nonsense are you saying? The seeking is rejected, the path is blocked, Since I see no purpose, what is the goal? And if you are a zealous man in this work, Go until the Friend puts a patch on your shoe. If you roll around like a ball for a hundred centuries, I do not know if you will catch even a scent of it. You have wasted your days in conceit; Who are you for this, and what business do you have with it?"
