مگر مردی ز مردان طلب کار
به گرد گور مردان گشت بسیار

شبی می گشت خوش خوش گرد خاکی
به گوش او رسید آواز پاکی

که تا کی گور مردان را پرستی؟
به گرد کار مردان گرد و رستی

تو در بیچارگی اول قدم نه
وزان پس سر سوی خوان کرم نه

چو آن خوان کرم را برکشیدند
گنه کاران عاصی در رسیدند

چو خوان را پیش علیون نهادند
سر دربان ز در بیرون نهادند

چو دروان را ز در بیرون نهاده ست
هر آن کس را که باید در گشاده ست

اگر تو بی گناهی گر گنه کار
به خوان بنشین که سلطان می دهد بار

چون آن خوان کرم گسترده آمد
همه کردار بد ناکرده آمد

مشو ای عاصی بیچاره نومید
که چون پیدا شود اشراق خورشید

اگر افتد به قصر پادشایی
هم افتد نیز بر کنج گدایی

کسی کاو برهنه است امروز در راه
در او به تابد آن خورشید درگاه

چو کار مخلصان آمد خطرناک
گنهکاران برند این گوی چالاک

نبیند مرد خودبین پادشا را
انین المذنبین باید خدا را

درین ره نیست خودبینی خجسته
تنی لاغر دلی باید بخسته

English translation

It happened that a man among the seekers Wandered much around the graves of the men of God. One night, he was happily wandering around some dust, When a pure voice reached his ear: 'How long will you worship the graves of men? Revolve around the deeds of men, and you will be saved. First, take a step in helplessness, And then lay your head toward the table of generosity.' When they spread out that table of generosity, The disobedient sinners arrived. When they placed the table before the Exalted Ones, They removed the gatekeeper from the door. Since the gatekeeper has been removed from the door, The door is open for everyone who is in need. Whether you are sinless or a sinner, Sit at the table, for the Sultan is granting an audience. When that table of generosity was spread, All bad deeds became as if undone. Do not despair, O helpless sinner, For when the radiance of the sun appears, If it falls upon a king's palace, It also falls upon a beggar's corner. He who is naked today on the path, The sun of the court shines upon him better. Since the work of the sincere ones is fraught with danger, The sinners swiftly carry away this ball. The self-conceited man does not see the King; God requires the moaning of the sinners. On this path, self-conceit is not auspicious; One needs a lean body and a wounded heart.
