یکی شاگرد احول داشت استاد
مگر شاگرد را جایی فرستاد

که ما را یک قرابه روغن آنجاست
بیاور زود آن شاگرد برخاست

چو آنجا شد که گفت و دیده بگماشت
قرابه چون دو دید احول عجب داشت

بر استاد آمد گفت ای پیر
دو می بینم قرابه من چه تدبیر

ز خشم استاد گفتش ای بد اختر
یکی بشکن دگر یک را بیاور

چو او در دیدن خود شک نمی دید
بشد این شکست آن یک نمی دید

اگر چیزی همی بینی تو جز خویش
توهم آن احول خویشی بیندیش

تو هر چیزی که می بینی تو آنی
ولی چون در غلط ماندی چه دانی

English translation

A master had a cross-eyed apprentice, By chance, he sent the apprentice somewhere, Saying, "We have a flask of oil there, Bring it quickly." The apprentice arose. When he arrived at the place and looked, The cross-eyed one, seeing two flasks, was astonished. He came to the master and said, "O elder, I see two flasks; what is the solution?" In anger, the master said to him, "O ill-starred one, Break one and bring the other." Since he had no doubt in his own vision, He went and broke one, and then could not see the other. If you see anything other than the One Self, Consider that you too are that cross-eyed one. Whatever you see, you are that, But since you remain in error, what do you know?
