Section 10 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

A deaf man slept on the road out of cleverness, Waiting for a caravan to arrive. The caravan arrived and departed like smoke; How could that sleeping deaf man be aware? When he awoke and sleep left his eyes, They said to him, "O deaf man, the caravan is gone! Why did you sleep? Who ultimately sleeps like this, While companions and friends passed by? I do not know what kind of dream time saw for you, That it pleasantly put you to sleep until the end." The deaf man heard this and said, "I was confused, For I was both deaf and asleep. Alas, when I awoke from sleep, I find no trace of a single companion."
