اسیری را به صد درد و ندامت
به دوزخ می برند اندر قیامت

زند انگشت و دیده برکند زود
به خواری دیده بر خاک افکند زود

چنین گوید که از دیده چه مقصود
نخواهم دیده بی دیدار معبود

اگر دیدار معبودم نباشد
ز دیده هیچ مقصودم نباشد

چو مقصودم نخواهد گشت حاصل
نه دیده خواهم و نه جان و نه دل

حجابت گر از آن حضرت بهشت است
ندارم زهره تا گویم که زشت است

بهشتی را بخود گر باز خوانی
نیندیشی که از حق بازمانی

چه می گویم کسی کز ماهرویی
شود از ناتوانی همچو مویی

به یک جو زر کند صدگونه کردار
بهشتی چون بنستاند زهی کار

ولیکن این سخن با مرد راه است
نه با دیوانه و دیوان سیاه است

English translation

They take a captive with a hundred pains and regrets To Hell on the Day of Resurrection. He quickly strikes his fingers and plucks out his eyes, And swiftly throws his eyes upon the dust in abasement. He says thus, "What is the purpose of these eyes? I do not want eyes without the sight of the Worshipped One. If the sight of my Worshipped One is not to be, I have no purpose at all for my eyes. Since my goal will not be achieved, I want neither eyes, nor soul, nor heart. If your veil from His Presence is Paradise, I do not have the courage to say that it is ugly. If you call Paradise to yourself, Do you not consider that you will be held back from the Truth? What am I saying? Someone who, because of a moon-faced beauty, Becomes like a hair out of weakness, For a single barleycorn of gold will do a hundred kinds of deeds; When one does not accept a paradise, what an extraordinary act! But these words are for the man of the Path, Not for the madman and the black demons."
