بخش ۲ - الحکایه و التمثیل / Section 2 - The Tale and the Exemplum

چنین گفت آن عزیزی بادیانت
که تا حق عرضه دادست این امانت

زمین و آسمان زان در رمیدست
که بار عهده آن سخت دیدست

تو تنها آمدی تا آن کشی تو
از آن ترسم که خط در جان کشی تو

اگر اینست امانت ای همه ننگ
بسی این به کشد ازتو خری لنگ

اگر بی سر شوی این سر بدانی
وگرنه گربهٔ از چند خوانی

English translation

Thus spoke that pious, devout one: Since the Truth offered this Trust, Earth and heaven shied away from it, Because they saw the burden of its commitment as too heavy. You came alone to carry it; I fear that you may draw a line through your soul. If this is how you treat the Trust, O utter disgrace, A lame donkey would carry this far better than you. If you become selfless, you will know this secret; Otherwise, you are but a cat, howsoever much you read.
