بپرسید از علی مردی دل افروز
که باشد در بهشت ای شیر حق روز

نباشد گفت روز خرم آنجا
از آن معنی که شب نبود هم آنجا

نه شمسی باشد و نه زمهریری
نه مظلم بینی آنجا نه منیری

همین اجسام کاینجا باشد امروز
همین اجسام باشد عالم افروز

چو پشت آینه ست اجسام اینجا
شود چون روی آیینه مصفا

عمر اینجا عمر آنجا سراجست
بلال ابنوسین همچو عاجست

چو مغز پای بوبکر و عمر را
توان دیدن چنان کاینجا قمر را

چو سیبی راکه اندر خلد بشکافت
توانی در میانش حور عین یافت

چه باشد گر تن تو نور باشد
همه ذرات عالم حور باشد

چو در چشم آیدت چون ماه نوری
چرا ناید در آن هر ذره حوری

نه سید گفت کین دم شد پدیدار
بهشت و دوزخم زین پاره دیوار

چو خورد اندر نماز انگور جنت
چرا دایم ندید او حور جنت

نه سید گفت خلد و نار کونین
بتو نزدیک تر از بند نعلین

بهشتی دان تو از قول پیمبر
ز حد حجره او تا به منبر

چو او را دیدهء جبریل بین بود
بهشتش لاجرم اندر زمین بود

وضو اینجا وضو آنجایگه نور
جماد اینجا جماد آن جایگه حور

چو تو بینندهٔ گور و زمینی
زمین جز روضه و حفره نبینی

ببینی گر ترا آن چشم باز است
که پیغامبر بگور اندر نماز است

ترا این آب خوش خوش می نماید
پری را آبت آتش می نماید

چگونه شرح جسم و جان دهم من
که جان و جسم را یکسان نهم من

زنی کامروز پیر و ناتوانست
چو آنجا رفت بکر است و جوانست

نیارد مرد ریش آنجا بره برد
که نتوان باد ریش آنجایگه برد

کسی کاینجا بود در کین و در زور
کنندش حشر اندر صورت مور

عوان آنجا سگی خیزد چو آذر
سگ و بلعام در صورت برابر

یک آیینه ست جسم و جان درویش
به حکمت می نماید از دو رویش

اگر زین سو نماید جسم باشد
وز آن سو جان پاکش اسم باشد

عزیزا تو چه دانی خویشتن را
طلسمی بوالعجب دان جان و تن را

بهشت از نور تو زینت پذیرد
که بی اعمال تو زینت نگیرد

English translation

A heart-illuminating man asked Ali, 'O Lion of Truth, is there day in Paradise?' He said, 'There is no joyous day there, because there is no night there either. There is neither a sun nor freezing cold; you will see neither dark nor bright there. These very bodies that are here today, these same bodies will be world-illuminating. Bodies here are like the back of a mirror; (there) they will become clear like the face of a mirror. Umar here is Umar, there he is a lamp; Bilal, the ebony-colored, is like ivory. For one can see the marrow of the legs of Abu Bakr and Umar, just as one sees the moon here. When one splits an apple in Paradise, you can find a dark-eyed houri inside it. What is it if your body is light? All the atoms of the world would be houris. When a light like the moon comes into your eye, why wouldn't a houri come into every atom? Did not the Master say, 'At this moment, heaven and hell appeared to me from this piece of wall'? When he ate the grapes of Paradise during prayer, why didn't he always see the houris of Paradise? Did not the Master say, 'The heaven and hell of the two worlds are closer to you than the strap of your sandal'? Know it to be Paradise, according to the Prophet's word, from the boundary of his chamber to the pulpit. Since he had eyes that saw Gabriel, his paradise was inevitably on earth. Ablution here is ablution, there it is light; inanimate matter here is inanimate matter, there it is a houri. Since you are a seer of graves and earth, you see the earth as nothing but a garden or a pit. You would see, if that eye of yours were open, that the Prophet is in prayer within the grave. This water appears pleasant and sweet to you; to a fairy, your water appears as fire. How can I give an explanation of body and soul? For I place body and soul on the same level. A woman who today is old and feeble, when she goes there, is a virgin and young. A bearded man cannot take his beard there, for one cannot take the air of a beard to that place. Whoever is here in malice and force, they will resurrect him in the form of an ant. The oppressor will rise there as a dog like fire; a dog and Balaam will be equal in form. The body and soul of a dervish are a single mirror; by wisdom, it shows itself from its two faces. If it shows from this side, it is the body, and from that side, its name is the pure soul. Dear one, what do you know of yourself? Know body and soul as a wondrous talisman. Paradise receives adornment from your light, for without your deeds, it takes no adornment.'
