بخش ۶ - الحکایه و التمثیل / Section 6 - The Tale and the Parable

رسید آن پیر را سر الهی
که مردی ز آن ما گر دید خواهی

برو سوی خرابات و نشان خواه
که پیری ست آن ز حمالان این راه

بیامد مرد و شرح حال او خواست
بدو گفتند دی شد کار او راست

به صد زاری و غم دی مرد اینجا
جهان بر خود به سردی برد اینجا

سپیدش موی بود و روی زردی
همه حمالی خم خانه کردی

همی بردی سبوی خمر بر دوش
ولی هرگز نکردی قطره ای نوش

به هر گامی که در ره برگرفتی
به سوز جان و درد دل بگفتی

که«ای دارنده ی دنیا و دین هم
ببخش آنرا که آنش نیست و این هم»

English translation

A divine secret reached that elder, Saying: 'If you wish to see a man who is Ours, Go towards the tavern and seek a sign, For there is an elder among the porters of this path.' The man came and asked about his condition. They told him: 'Yesterday his affair was set right. With a hundred laments and sorrows, the man died here yesterday, He passed through the world coldly here. His hair was white and his face pale, He did all the porterage of the tavern. He would carry the jug of wine on his shoulder, But he never drank a single drop. With every step he took on the path, With a burning soul and pain in his heart, he would say: 'O Sustainer of the world and of religion too, Forgive the one who has neither that nor this.''
