Know for certain that it is His pleasure Habituate yourself to obedience and stay away from sin For your obedience will yield no light alongside sin Do not become angry too quickly from excessive harshness So that you do not look down on anyone Do not fill your chest with burning resentment towards anyone For you yourself will remain burning day and night Do not let greed overpower you Lest your pure soul becomes sick of the body Do not speak falsehood and lies in any way For there is never a sin worse than this If envy overcomes your nature Your heart will become tired of life When you are compelled to do a task unwillingly See how it will end up If your heart is severely wounded from impatience Be patient, perhaps the door of time is closed If you wish to choose a companion Choose a wise one so you do not see sorrow Go through a hundred unworthy people in the world So that you might find one worthy person among them Someone you haven't tested a hundred times Do not make them the keeper of your secrets Do not honor any fool For a fool falls into error out of immaturity Never tell a secret in front of idiots Never give an answer back to fools Do not give power to the vulgar and the rustic For they will make the people sick of life through tyranny Be dignified and composed, and do not rush at all Do not run headlong like quicksilver If you are weighed by the standard of intellect Like raw indigo, you will immediately become ripe Do not spill this drop of water from your loins For it will become a heavy burden on your back In any deed where you enter with lust It is as if you separate your own kin from yourself Do not accustom your tongue to speaking much With thirty wisdoms, lock it in thirty bounds First think, then speak Do not make a habit of asking and talking too much Speak pleasant words as much as you speak For speaking pleasantly is the root of all goodness Do not tell any sort of secret to a woman For a woman will reveal all your secrets entirely Keep your child's heart alive with religion For that will be like an engraving carved in stone Protect your son from a bad companion For people become sinners through companions Honor the ancient elders For in your old age you will understand these words Speak little, and when you speak, speak well Do not blurt out good and bad just as they come Memorize the words of the great ones From every single point, grasp a hundred masters Someone who has suffered in mastering an art Buy a single point from that person for a treasure Someone who once received honor from you Do not humiliate them out of ignorance like the turning sky When someone speaks to you, consider it well Do not say 'I have heard this before' Someone whose quantity and quality you have tested Beware not to test them again Do not tame a slanderer near yourself For they will slander you too in the end May you have no dealings with the ignorant Lest they bring upon you the burden of soul-diminishing Someone who tells you how to do a bad deed Do not reply to them, drive them away from yourself Do not give a talebearer a place near yourself For every day they will turn you around with a hundred opinions The flaw of anyone is hidden For God knows how He created them Turn your gaze toward everyone in such a way That you see every worse person as better than yourself Do not harbor bad suspicions of anyone, carry good ones Practice forbearance, yield to those lesser than you Be willingly kind to everyone Be like the sun of the world to everyone If you want the Kaaba to flourish Make the heart of a spiritual person happy with yourself Keep your gaze away from the face of the unrelated Do not fall under a hundred burdens from a single glance Do not backbite, do not give vain insults For you will remain mired in regret in the end If you light a candle for making jokes From that joke, you will burn like a candle too Do not throw your life to the wind for free For no one has truly known the value of life Treat your subordinates well in your answers Perhaps a righteous man will approve of you Do not cast anyone down with contempt in speech Humble yourself if you are a master of the craft Do not look at anyone with an eye of belittlement For just as the peacock is needed, so too is the fly Do not speak unworthily and vainly to anyone Do not randomly offend or annoy either If a fool comes before you Begin to show arrogance before the fool And if a man of God comes before you Be humble and turn yourself into dust If you circle around someone too much Even if you alone When you wish to find release from calamity Free the captives from prison Pause for a moment in meting out punishment So that afterward you don't remain in regret Do not wrangle with anyone too much in speech For acting like a dog is not a great feat Do not make a child insolent toward yourself For you would have thrown your jewel in the mud Do not hasten in the time of answering For the condition is to wait for a moment Be generous, for anyone who was generous It is not fitting for me to say they were hellish Make your heart content so your soul does not rot For contentment is a treasure that does not rot Do not speak much of yourself regarding purity Know yourself as but a handful of water and earth Do not wound your heart with vain anxieties For you already have more suddenly and unfittingly For that excess will undoubtedly consume you in return When you are about to go to sleep at night by habit Say the declaration of faith from the sincerity of your heart At the time of dawn, lift your head from sleep For that breath is better than a sleeping corpse When the time of prayer approaches you Do not invalidate your prayer with vain thoughts Always be forward-thinking about the end result of matters For whoever became forward-thinking was saved Always be the guardian of your own moments In your thoughts, be in the presence of your own essence Keep your exterior pure according to the Sharia Abstain from the impurity of nature Keep your interior in meaning such That it does not bring you shame if it were revealed Acquire such a state in the world That if they say 'Go,' you are ready to depart If you have gold or if you have kingship Do something that you would want to be done back to you When your tongue becomes silent in the agony of death Forget all thoughts Do not fear in that hour and hold onto hope Hold a lamp up to the sun For whoever gives up his soul in joy Will find many eternal delights This proverb is useful here when you say: 'In the agony of death, one must have a fresh face' Do not despise my advice out of negligence Apply them one by one and reap the benefit If you have business on the path of secrets Do not consider anyone to have a better memorial than this Know all of this and sit silently Draw your tongue into your palate and calm your boiling Make patience your profession; this is the Path Take up silence; this is the Truth
