بخش ۵ - الحکایه و التمثیل / Section 5 - The Tale and the Parable

وصیت کرد مردی مال بسیار
که چون مردم برند این پیش مختار

که تا این را بدرویشان رساند
که مهتر مستحق را به بداند

چو بردند آن همه زر پیش مهتر
بقدر نیم جو برداشت زان زر

چنین گفت او که گر در زندگانی
بدادی این قدر آن مرد فانی

بدست خود بسی بودیش بهتر
که بدهد این همه زر خاصه مهتر

English translation

A man bequeathed a great amount of wealth, That when people take it before the chosen one, He may deliver it to the dervishes, For the elder knows the deserving ones better. When they took all that gold to the elder, He picked up the amount of half a barleycorn from that gold. He spoke thus: 'If during his lifetime, That mortal man had given this amount By his own hand, it would have been much better for him, Than the elder giving away all this gold.'
