ز رب العزه اندر خواست داود
که حکمت چیست کآمد خلق موجود

خطاب آمد که تا این گنج پنهان
که این ماییم بشناسند ایشان

چو از بهر شناسایی گنجی
بگلخن سر فرو آری برنجی

اگر چشم دلت بیننده بودی
ترا بینندگی زیبنده بودی

ز نور چشم سر چیزی نیاید
دلت را نور چشمی می بباید

که عیسی را و خر را چشم سر بود
ولی چشم دل عیسی دگر بود

اگر هرگز دلت را دیده بودی
عجایبهای این ره دیده بودی

اگر چه وصف آن عمری شنیدی
نیاری فهم کردن چون بدیدی

اگر هر دم حضورش را بکوشی
ز واسجد واقترب تشریف پوشی

اگر عهد ازل را آشنایی
از آن حضرت چرا گیری جدایی

به معنی باز جان را آشنا کن
سزای قرب دست پادشا کن

که چون از طبل باز آواز آید
ز شوق آن باز در پرواز آید

چو بی دل گردد و بی جان نشیند
همه بر ساعد سلطان نشیند

ولی تا باز را در سر کلاه است
کجا درخورد دست پادشاه است

چو راه آموزد و بیننده گردد
ز دست پادشاه دل زنده گردد

بداند باز در اعزاز مانده
که زین پیش از چه بود او بازمانده

ولی گر بازت اینجا باز ماند
شه او را پیش خود چون بازخواند

اگر این باز پروردی به اعزاز
به اعزازی بدست شه رسد باز

وگرنه خود جواب تو دهد شاه
زهی حسرت که از شه بینی آنگاه

English translation

David beseeched the Lord of Glory, 'What is the wisdom in creation being brought into existence?' The address came: 'So that this hidden treasure Which is Us, they might come to know.' Since for the sake of knowing a treasure, You bring your head down into the furnace and suffer. If the eye of your heart were seeing, Seeing would be fitting for you. Nothing comes from the light of the eye of the head, Your heart needs the light of an eye. For Jesus and his donkey both had eyes in their heads, But the eye of Jesus's heart was something else. If you had ever seen your heart, You would have seen the wonders of this path. Even if you heard its description for a lifetime, You would not understand it when you saw it. If you strive for His presence at every moment, You will wear the robe of honor of 'Prostrate and draw near'. If you are acquainted with the pre-eternal covenant, Why do you separate yourself from His Presence? In truth, acquaint the falcon of your soul, Make it worthy of the proximity of the king's hand. So that when the sound of the falcon-drum comes, Out of longing, that falcon will take flight. When it loses its heart and sits lifeless, It will sit entirely upon the Sultan's forearm. But as long as the falcon has the hood on its head, How is it worthy of the King's hand? When it learns the way and becomes a seer, Its heart becomes alive from the King's hand. The falcon, remaining in honor, will know, Why it was left behind before this. But if your falcon remains behind here, How will the King call it back to Himself? If you nourished this falcon with honor, With honor it will return to the King's hand. And if not, the King Himself will answer you, Alas, what regret you will see from the King then!
