شنودم من از آن داننده استاد
که چون عبادی اندر نزع افتاد

درآمد پیش او عباسه ناگاه
ز پای افتاده دیدش بر سر راه

ز سیلاب اجل مدهوش گشته
ز پاسخ بلبلش خاموش گشته

بدو گفت ای لطیف نغز گفتار
زفانت در سخن گفتن شکر بار

تو تا پیش سخن گویان نشستی
همه دست سخن گویان ببستی

چرا گشتی چنین خاموش بیکار ؟
چو بود آن حرص بسیارت به گفتار

English translation

I heard from that knowledgeable master, That when Abadi fell into the throes of death, Abbasah suddenly came before him, And saw him fallen upon the path, Unconscious from the flood of death, His nightingale silenced from responding. He said to him, 'O gentle and eloquent speaker, Whose tongue rained sugar when you spoke! As long as you sat among the orators, You bound the hands of all speakers. Why have you become so silent and idle? When you once had such immense greed for speech?'
