بدان دیوانه گفت آن مرد مؤمن
که هر کو شد به کعبه گشت ایمن

فراوان تن زد آن دیوانه در راه
که تا در مکه آمد پیش درگاه

هنوز از کعبه پای او بدر بود
که بربودند دستارش ز سر زود

یکی اعرابیی را دید بی نور
که دستارش بتک می برد از دور

زفان بگشاد آن مجنون به گفتار
که اینک ایمنی آمد پدیدار

چو دستارم ز سر بردند بر در
میان خانه خود کی ماندم سر

نشان ایمنی بر سر پدیدست
به خانه چون روم بر در پدیدست

ولی جایی که صد سر گوی راهست
چه جای امن دستار و کلاه است

هزاران سر برین در ذره ای نیست
هزاران بحر اینجا قطره ای نیست

هزاران جان نثار افتد بر آن سر
که بربایند دستارش بر آن در

تو تا بیرون نیایی از سرو پوست
نیابی ایمنی بر درگه دوست

ز تو تا هست باقی یک سر موی
یقین می دان که نبود ایمنی روی

نشان امن این ره بی شک اینست
شب معراج واترک نفسک اینست

اگر پیدا شوی حیران بمانی
وگر پنهان شوی پنهان بمانی

English translation

That faithful man said to that madman, "Whoever goes to the Kaaba becomes safe." The madman endured much on the path, Until he arrived in Mecca, before the threshold. His foot was still outside the Kaaba, When they quickly snatched his turban from his head. He saw a lightless Bedouin, Who was running away with his turban from afar. That madman opened his tongue to speak: "Behold, safety has manifested! When they took my turban from my head at the door, How will my head remain on me inside the house? The sign of safety on the head is evident, How will it be in the house, when it is evident at the door? But a place where a hundred heads are balls on the path, What place of safety is there for turban and hat? Thousands of heads at this door are not a speck, Thousands of oceans here are not a drop. Thousands of souls are sacrificed for that head, Whose turban they snatch away at that door. Until you step out of your head and skin, You will not find safety at the threshold of the Friend. As long as a single hair of you remains, Know for certain that the face of safety will not be seen. The sign of safety on this path is undoubtedly this, The Night of Ascension and 'Leave yourself behind' is this. If you become manifest, you will remain bewildered, And if you become hidden, you will remain hidden."
