Section 12 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

A well-wisher told us a tale, That on a desert path there was a well. I was seeking water from that well when suddenly A ring fell from my hand into the well. I sent someone down to the bottom of the well, [Saying] 'Whatever debris you see at the bottom of the well, Put it all in the bucket so I may draw it up, Perhaps the ring will be on top, and I will draw it up.' I drew up several buckets of load from the well, I searched through abundant debris on the path. I saw a black stone in that dirt, Like a sphere, its shape very smooth and clean. I tossed it, for it was a heavy stone, It fell from my hand to the ground and broke. It split in two, and a worm from its center Emerged with a green leaf in its mouth. Hail the Benefactor, who in His providence Nurtures a worm inside a solid rock! In a dark well on a desert path, Keeping watch over a worm within a rock! O greedy one, behold the grace of His provision, Behold His enduring gifts and blessings.
