شنودم من که موشی در بیابان
مگر دید اشتری را بی نگه بان

مهارش سخت بگرفت و دوان شد
که تا اشتر بآسانی روان شد

چو آوردش بسوراخی که بودش
نبودش جای آن اشتر چه سودش

بدو گفت اشتر ای گم کرده راهت
من اینک آمدم کو جایگاهت

ترا چون نیست از سستی سرخویش
بدین عدت مرا آری بر خویش

کجا آید برون تنگ روزن
چو من اشتر بدین سوراخ سوزن

برو از جان خود برگیر این بار
که اشتر گربه افتادست این کار

برو دم درکش ای موش سیه سر
که نتوانی شد اشتر را سیه گر

برو ای مور خود را خانهٔ جوی
سخن در خورد خود از دانهٔ گوی

ترا ای مور ازآن دل خوش فتادست
که کیک تو عماری کش فتادست

English translation

I heard that a mouse in the desert Happened to see a camel without a guardian It took its halter firmly and ran So that the camel easily followed along When it brought it to the hole that was its own There was no room for that camel, what was the use? The camel said to it, 'O you who have lost your way, Here I have come; where is your place? Since out of weakness you have no place for your own head, With this preparation do you bring me to yourself? How can it come through a tight window, A camel like me into this eye of a needle? Go, take this burden off your soul, For this task has turned out to be a mismatch. Go, hold your breath, O black-headed mouse, For you cannot act as a master to a camel. Go, O ant, seek a house for yourself, Speak words according to your size, about a grain. You, O ant, have become so delighted by this, That your flea has turned out to be a palanquin-bearer.'
