شبی خفت آن گدایی در تنوری
شهی را دید می شد در سموری

زمستان بود و سرما بود بسیار
گدا با شاه گفت ای شاه هشیار

تو گرچه بی خبر بودی ز سرما
فرا سرآمد این شب نیز بر ما

عزیزا در بن این دیر گردان
صبوری و قناعت کن چو مردان

به مردی صبر کن بر جای بنشین
به سر می در مدو وز پای بنشین

حکیمی در مثل رمزی نمودست
که صبر اندر همه کاری ستودست

همه خذلان مردم از شتابست
خرد را این سخن چون آفتابست

شتاب ازحرص دارد جان مردم
نگه کن حرص آدم بین و گندم

اگر نه حرص در دل راه دادی
کجا از جنت الماوی فتادی

ز آدم حرص میراثست ما را
درازا محنتا آشفته کارا

English translation

One night, a beggar slept in an oven, He saw a king passing by in sable fur. It was winter, and the cold was severe; The beggar said to the king, 'O vigilant king! Although you were unaware of the cold, This night has also passed for us.' O dear one, at the bottom of this revolving monastery (the world), Practice patience and contentment like true men. Manfully be patient and sit still in your place, Do not run headlong, but sit on your feet. A wise man has revealed a secret in a parable: That patience is praised in all affairs. All the failure of people comes from haste; To the intellect, this saying is as bright as the sun. The soul's haste stems from greed; Look at the greed of Adam and the wheat. If he had not let greed enter his heart, How could he have fallen from the Garden of Refuge? Greed is our inheritance from Adam; Oh, what a long sorrow and chaotic affair!
