دین نه آن بازیست کو از شه گریخت
سوی آن کمپیر کو می آرد بیخت

تا که تتماجی پزد اولاد را
دید آن باز خوش خوش زاد را

پایکش بست و پرش کوتاه کرد
ناخنش ببرید و قوتش کاه کرد

گفت نااهلان نکردندت بساز
پر فزود از حد و ناخن شد دراز

دست هر نااهل بیمارت کند
سوی مادر آ که تیمارت کند

مهر جاهل را چنین دان ای رفیق
کژ رود جاهل همیشه در طریق

روز شه در جست و جو بی گاه شد
سوی آن کمپیر و آن خرگاه شد

دید ناگه باز را در دود و گرد
شه برو بگریست زار و نوحه کرد

گفت هرچند این جزای کار تست
که نباشی در وفای ما درست

چون کنی از خلد زی دوزخ فرار؟
غافل از «لا یستوی اصحاب نار»

این سزای آنک از شاه خبیر
خیره بگریزد به خانهٔ گنده پیر

باز می مالید پر بر دست شاه
بی زبان می گفت من کردم گناه

پس کجا زارد کجا نالد لئیم؟
گر تو نپذیری به جز نیک ای کریم

لطف شه جان را جنایت جو کند
زانک شه هر زشت را نیکو کند

رو مکن زشتی که نیکی های ما
زشت آمد پیش آن زیبای ما

خدمت خود را سزا پنداشتی
تو لوای جرم از آن افراشتی

چون ترا ذکر و دعا دستور شد
زان دعا کردن دلت مغرور شد

هم سخن دیدی تو خود را با خدا
ای بسا کو زین گمان افتد جدا

گرچه با تو شه نشیند بر زمین
خویشتن بشناس و نیکوتر نشین

باز گفت ای شه پشیمان می شوم
توبه کردم نومسلمان می شوم

آنک تو مستش کنی و شیرگیر
گر ز مستی کژ رود عذرش پذیر

گرچه ناخن رفت چون باشی مرا
بر کنم من پرچم خورشید را

ورچه پرم رفت چون بنوازی ام
چرخ بازی گم کند در بازی ام

گر کمر بخشیم که را برکنم
گر دهی کلکی علمها بشکنم

آخر از پشه نه کم باشد تنم
ملک نمرودی به پر برهم زنم

در ضعیفی تو مرا بابیل گیر
هر یکی خصم مرا چون پیل گیر

قدر فندق افکنم بندق حریق
بندقم در فعل صد چون منجنیق

گرچه سنگم هست مقدار نخود
لیک در هیجا نه سر ماند نه خود

موسی آمد در وغا با یک عصاش
زد بر آن فرعون و بر شمشیرهاش

هر رسولی یک تنه کان در زدست
بر همه آفاق تنها بر زدست

نوح چون شمشیر در خواهید ازو
موج طوفان گشت ازو شمشیرخو

احمدا خود کیست اسپاه زمین؟
ماه بین بر چرخ و بشکافش جبین

تا بداند سعد و نحس بی خبر
دور تست این دور نه دور قمر

دور تست ایرا که موسی کلیم
آرزو می برد زین دورت مقیم

چونک موسی رونق دور تو دید
کاندرو صبح تجلی می دمید

گفت یارب آن چه دور رحمتست
آن گذشت از رحمت آنجا رؤیتست

غوطه ده موسی خود را در بحار
از میان دورهٔ احمد بر آر

گفت یا موسی بدان بنمودمت
راه آن خلوت بدان بگشودمت

که تو زان دوری درین دور ای کلیم
پا بکش زیرا درازست این گلیم

من کریمم نان نمایم بنده را
تا بگریاند طمع آن زنده را

بینی طفلی بمالد مادری
تا شود بیدار و وا جوید خوری

کو گرسنه خفته باشد بی خبر
وان دو پستان می خلد زو مهر در

کنت کنزا رحمة مخفیة
فابتعثت امة مهدیة

هر کراماتی که می جویی بجان
او نمودت تا طمع کردی در آن

چند بت بشکست احمد در جهان
تا که یا رب گوی گشتند امتان

گر نبودی کوشش احمد تو هم
می پرستیدی چو اجدادت صنم

این سرت وا رست از سجدهٔ صنم
تا بدانی حق او را بر امم

گر بگویی شکر این رستن بگو
کز بت باطن همت برهاند او

مر سرت را چون رهانید از بتان
هم بدان قوت تو دل را وا رهان

سر ز شکر دین از آن برتافتی
کز پدر میراث مفتش یافتی

مرد میراثی چه داند قدر مال؟
رستمی جان کند و مجان یافت زال

چون بگریانم، بجوشد رحمتم
آن خروشنده بنوشد نعمتم

گر نخواهم داد، خود ننمایمش
چونش کردم بسته دل بگشایمش

رحمتم موقوف آن خوش گریه هاست
چون گریست، از بحر رحمت موج خاست

English translation

Religion is not that falcon that fled from the king To that old crone who sifts flour So that she may cook tutmaj for her children. That old crone saw the beautiful, well-bred falcon, She tied its leg and cut its wings short, She clipped its talons and reduced its food. She said, "Unworthy people did not treat you well; Your wings grew beyond limit and your talons became long. The hand of every unworthy person makes you sick; Come to your mother so she may care for you." Know the affection of the ignorant to be like this, O friend: The ignorant always walks crookedly on the path. One day the king, in search, arrived late At the old crone and that tent. Suddenly he saw the falcon in smoke and dust; The king wept bitterly over it and lamented. He said, "Although this is the recompense for your action, That you were not steadfast in loyalty to us, Why do you flee from paradise to hell? Heedless of 'The companions of the fire are not equal.' This is the punishment of the one who, from the knowing king, Stubbornly flees to the house of the foul old woman." The falcon was rubbing its wing against the king's hand; Tonguelessly it was saying, "I have committed a sin. So where should the base one weep, where should he lament? If You do not accept anything but goodness, O Generous One? The grace of the king makes the soul seek crimes, Because the king makes every ugly thing beautiful. Go, do not commit ugliness, for our good deeds Appeared ugly before that Beautiful One of ours. You thought your service was worthy; You raised the banner of crime for that reason. When you were granted permission for remembrance and prayer, Your heart became proud because of that praying. You saw yourself as a companion with God; Oh, how many have fallen apart because of this thought! Even if the king sits with you on the ground, Know yourself and sit more properly." The falcon said, "O king, I am becoming repentant; I have repented, I am becoming a new Muslim. He whom you make drunk and a lion-catcher, If he walks crookedly from drunkenness, accept his excuse. Although my talons are gone, if you are with me, I will pluck the forelock of the sun. And though my wing is gone, when you caress me, The sphere will lose its play in my playing. If you bestow a belt, who am I to tear up? If you give a pen, I will break banners. After all, my body is not less than a gnat; I will overthrow Nimrod's kingdom on the wing. In weakness, take me as the flock of Ababil; Take each of my enemies as an elephant. I will throw a pellet the size of a hazelnut like a firebrand; My pellet acts like a hundred catapults. Although my stone is the size of a chickpea, Yet in battle, neither head remains nor helmet. Moses came to battle with his one staff; He struck that Pharaoh and his swords. Every messenger alone, who struck the mine, Struck alone against all the horizons. When Noah asked Him for a sword, The wave of the flood became a sword-wielding force from Him. O Ahmad, who indeed is the army of the earth? Look at the moon in the sky and split its forehead! So that the unaware auspicious and inauspicious may know It is your era, not the era of the moon. It is your era, because Moses the speaker Residing in this era, was harboring a desire for your era. When Moses saw the splendor of your era, In which the morning of manifestation was dawning, He said, 'O Lord, what an era of mercy it is! It has surpassed mercy, there is vision there.' Immerse yourself, O Moses, in the seas; Raise your head from the middle of Ahmad's era. He said, 'O Moses, I showed it to you for this reason, I opened the path of that seclusion to you for this reason, That you are far from it in this era, O speaker; Draw back your foot, for this blanket is long. I am generous, I show bread to the servant, So that greed may make that living one weep. You see a mother rubbing an infant, So that it may wake up and seek food. While he is sleeping hungry and unaware, And those two breasts prick him with affection.' 'I was a hidden treasure of mercy, So I sent forth a guided nation.' Every miracle that you seek with your soul, He showed you so that you would desire it. How many idols did Ahmad break in the world, So that nations became those who say 'O Lord'? If it were not for Ahmad's effort, you too Would be worshipping an idol like your ancestors. This head of yours was saved from prostrating to an idol, So that you may know his right over the nations. If you say thanks for this deliverance, say it; So that he may also deliver you from the inner idol. Since he delivered your head from idols, By that same power, deliver your heart. You turned your head away from thanking the religion, Because you received it as a free inheritance from your father. What does an heir know of the value of wealth? Rostam suffered and Zal found it for free. 'When I make him weep, My mercy boils; That weeping one drinks My bounty. If I did not want to give, I would not show it to him; When I made his heart closed, I will open it. My mercy depends on those sweet weepings; When he wept, a wave rose from the sea of mercy.'
